Occupational Therapy Licensing Requirements by State

Before choosing which State Board to apply to, it’s important you know what to expect financially. Fees vary widely from state to state. For example, the initial licensure fee set forth by the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners is $250, while the Pennsylvania State Board of Occupational Therapy Education and Licensure committee only set forth a $30 initial licensure fee.

Most states require between 10 and 40 continuing education hours, and all require an educational degree, passing of the NBCOT exam, and completion of the application for admission.

Most states all require a background check and submission of all official transcripts. Use the following chart to find information including continuing education hours, licensure fees, contact person, where to send applications, and educational requirements of each State Board.
